WHAT IT’S ABOUT
Since he was thirteen years old, rockstar Webb Turner pined for Bree, the enigmatic girl across the street. He captured her in his songs, but never in his orbit. His lyrics about her propelled Webb’s band to superstardom, but his fame came with the price of finding real love.
When he discovers that Bree is dying, Webb leaves a stadium full of adoring fans to be at her side. As a blizzard batters the east coast, will Webb succeed in his fight against the storm and the mistakes of his past for a chance to say one last goodbye?
A few shots of tequila usually took care of the anxiety, but it had been three months since Webb had a drink.
WHAT I THOUGHT
The Goodbyes made me laugh and cry and say aww many times over. I absolutely loved this book. I found the book very moving and sad at times. I thought the characters were great. I loved Webb, Bree and Charlotte the most. Unrequited love is something most of us experience and the author gets this spot on. I felt furious with Webb as I read about his blinkered devotion to Bree who is not a particularly nice person. I wanted to give him a shake and order him to wake up and smell the toast burning. His feelings reminded me of my own obsession with an ex and how I loved her despite how horrible she was. I really enjoyed the flashbacks dealing with Webb and Bree’s past and Webb’s rise to fame. This was really well done and very enjoyable. Given the subject matter I thought I knew how the book was going to turn out but the author took me by complete surprise and I wasn’t expecting the novel to end up where it did. The Goodbyes is highly recommended.
